Are the social sciences within the scope of WikiProject Science?
[edit]I've noticed in User:Tom.Reding's wikiproject tagging that the WikiProject Science banner was being added social sciences categories such as Category:Political scientists, which seems like it shouldn't be within the scope of this wikiproject, though the project scope description only says "science-related articles", which isn't very clear. In my view, the intent of the project seems like it's supposed to be limited to the natural sciences, but I'm not sure if this is correct? --Paul_012 (talk) 16:07, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
- N.B. Talk:Political science is tagged with both {{WikiProject Politics}} & {{WikiProject Science}}. ~ Tom.Reding (talk ⋅dgaf) 17:01, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
This is an interesting little stub. It's marked as being associated with this project. It's been unsourced for 15 years. Is there someone who knows anything about this process who can help to source this? Bearian (talk) 09:51, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
RfCs on autism
[edit]
There's an RfC on whether the current article is consistent with NPOV and a second RfC on whether to keep the current lead or replace it. Oolong (talk) 14:18, 3 March 2025 (UTC)
Geographic categorization of species
[edit]There's been a longstanding consensus, applicable for at least a decade now, that since plant and animal species are not constrained by national borders, it would lead to extreme category bloat to microcategorize them for every individual country in which they could be found — so, instead, plant and animal species were only supposed to have one or two categories for the continent level, instead of five or ten or fifty different categories for the individual country level.
Within the past couple of weeks, however, an editor named TheTechnician27 has started subcategorizing beetles and spiders in particular back down to the country level again, often recreating categories that were deleted a decade ago when the consensus was first established and/or leaving pages filed in redlinked categories that don't exist at all in defiance of WP:REDNO.
I know that consensus can change, so I'm bringing this to the project's attention rather than immediately nominating all of their new categories for deletion. Has this project come to a consensus that you want plant and animal species to be subcategorized for individual country again, or is the consensus still that this would be an overcategorization nightmare that needs to be deleted and reversed? The new stub article Scientific language (linguistic classification) could use some attention from editors with knowledge or interest in the subject. It could use some English-language references. Biogeographist (talk) 16:09, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
